Simpson trades in the red and white to sport purple and gold

Franklin High School senior Lindsay Simpson signed to play basketball at Western Carolina University on Friday.

The 5’7” guard had been heavily recruited since her freshman year and decided to play for the Catamounts because of the opportunity to receive a quality education while playing for a dedicated sports team.

Numerous people spoke at the signing ceremony to honor Simpson including Gary Shields, John deVille and Bobby Kuppers.

• Throwing competition 9:45 a.m.-12 p.m.
• Running the bases 10 a.m.-12 p.m.
• Hitting competition 12 p.m.-3 p.m.
• Speed throwing 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.
• Home run derby 3 p.m.-4 p.m.
• Adult softball home run derby 4 p.m. -6p.m.
• Raffle for 2012 Worth Titan softball bat
• Food and fun for all ages!

Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. Proceeds benefit Franklin Little League baseball.

The Carolina Mudcats “AAA” 10U Baseball Team competed in the USSSA “First Pitch” Tournament on March 3-4, 2012 at Knox County Sports Park, Knoxville, Tenn. The Mudcats went undefeated to bring home the title of Tournament Champions!

Two new faces of Catamount athletics made a stop in Franklin last Wednesday as part of the Catamounts Unite Tour. Western Carolina University’s new Director of Athletics Randy Eaton and new Head football coach Mark Speir met with alumni and future catamounts to stir community support during a reception held at the Boiler Room.

Fred Goldsmith, former Franklin High School football coach and former NCAA coach of the year at Rice University, had the honor of introducing Eaton at the event.
