MCSC U14 Storm comes up short in Asheville

The U14 Storm came up one goal short against an evenly matched HFC Black team on April 6, losing 4-3 in a back-andforth scoring duel against the Asheville team. Angel Chavez found the net twice for the Storm, matched each time with a goal by HFC Black. Caleb Scott scored a header off of a corner kick from Omar Arellano to put the Storm ahead, 3-2. A collision with the Black goalkeeper sent Chavez to the side late in the second half, and a surge by the Black resulted in two more goals for the win.

On Lap 481 of Sunday's STP Gas Booster at Martinsville Speedway, Danica Patrick found herself in an unexpected position—battling Tony Stewart, her car owner and a threetime NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion, for the 16th position.

Stewart was hung on the outside, losing spots as cars at the bottom of the track passed him in quick succession. Patrick, however, said she didn't give a moment's consideration to giving Stewart enough room to move to the inside lane.

"We were racing for position, so it didn't cross my mind to let him in," said Patrick, who finished 12th as the top entry for Stewart-Haas Racing. "I went underneath him to go by him. No, all that crossed my mind is that I just ... I'd be fair and give room and run hard, and if I get the spot, great.

The Franklin Panthers Baseball Team took on the East Henderson Eagles Tuesday at Macon Middle School.

The Panthers looked to get back in the win column after suffering their last loss at home against Smoky Mountain, but this game would not be the one to put them there.

The Eagles were able to put up runs in each inning except for two, while the Panthers only scored in two, the 5th and the 7th. It wasn't enough to keep Franklin in the game falling, 11-3.

MCSC U14 Storm narrowly defeated

The U14 Storm fell to the RCSA Rutherford Rumble, 2-1, in a close, physical match on March 16. The Rumble had the Storm on the defensive early, and scored two in quick succession in the first half - one on a fast break throw-in and one on a touch foul in the box. The Storm raised their game in the second half, leading to an Angel Chavez score on an assist by Kyle Knop. Despite the improved play and several promising attacks, the Storm did not find the net again.
