VOLLEYBALL

Franklin High School Varsity Women's Volleyball team played at home Monday against Cherokee, winning in three matches, 25-11, 25-9, 25-12.

Amy Underwood finished with 8 kills, Mariah Wallace with 7 kills, Sarah Henson with 6 kills, Haylee Overholt with 16 assists, 5 kills, and 8 aces (in one game); and Kailin Carpenter had 7 assists.

It was a rainy Saturday afternoon on July 14 when the 2nd Franklin Cornhole Doubles Tournament made its way into Franklin history. The dreary weather made no difference to the 16 men’s teams and the three women’s teams awaited the brackets to be set for the events at the Franklin Community Center.

The women started with two strong teams Edwina Hauversburk and Barbara Bullard against the strong competitors of Sue Schultz and Eva Haller. The battle waged and Edwina and Barbara were the Franklin Women Doubles Cornhole Champions.

The Franklin High School Panther Men's Soccer Team scored a 3 to 1 victory over Highlands in their Tuesday night game.

Arturo Lopez scored 2 points that brought the Panthers to a 2 to 1 lead at half time.

Alberto Gonzalez-Garcia scored another goal in the second half of the game to bring the Panthers the win with a 3-1 ending score.

The Old Bones Senior Softball team from Franklin, recently beat all competition and won the Hendersonville Senior Softball 65 age group tournament by soundly beating Hendersonville, 12-7; Lake Keowee/ Seneca, 19-7; and Charlotte, 14-11.

Special recognition goes to Walt Taylor who pitched two stellar games holding the competition to only seven runs and Larry Hildreth, who came in from his normal outfield position to hold the powerful Charlotte team to only 11 runs in the final tie breaking game.
