Disc golf course at SCC open to public

A new disc golf course has been constructed in Franklin, though many of the residents may have not realized it yet. Just behind the Southwestern Community College (SCC) building on the Macon County campus where the old Siler farm once operated, lies the new addition to the town.

Disc golf is a quickly growing sport and according to Noa Sparks, designer of the new course, there are around 1,000 courses around the country. Like it sounds, disc golf is similar to “ball” golf. The main difference being the substitution of a frisbee or a “disc,” for a golf ball.

FHS Sports Snaphsot: Basketball

The Franklin High School varsity basketball teams travelled to Tuscola on Tuesday, Feb. 12 for what would be their final regular season games. Both teams were coming off strong showings against West Henderson last Friday night, Feb. 8, when they both celebrated Senior Night with wins of 73-42 for the girls and 67-51 for the boys. Winter sport senior athletes and their families were honored before the Lady Panthers game. Senior Maggie Stewart was presented a commemorative basketball by Coach Harbarger shortly after she scored her 1,000th career point.
